Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

The grandfather of Hazrat Talha narrates: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wiping his head in this manner. Saying this, Hazrat Hafs passed both hands over his head and also wiped his neck.

Hazrat Sahl bin Yusuf says that I asked Hazrat Humaid whether Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) used to move the hair back and forth while performing masah (wiping) of the head? He replied, "No."

Hazrat Hisham bin Urwah narrates that his father, Hazrat Urwah, used to perform masah (wiping) of the head in such a way that he would move his hands first from the front to the back and then from the back to the front.

Hazrat Rubayyi’ says that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to visit us frequently. Once he came to us, so we placed water for his ablution. He performed ablution and wiped his head in such a way that he first moved his hands towards the back and then brought them forward towards the forehead.

Ayyub narrates the statement of Hazrat Nafi that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) used to perform masah (wiping) of the head in this manner: Saying this, Ayyub placed his hands in the middle of his head and moved them forward.

Hazrat Yazid says that Hazrat Salamah used to wipe (perform masah of) the front part of the head.
