Hadith 9810
٩٨١٠ - حدثنا وكيع عن الأعمش عن أبي عمار الهمداني عن عمرو (بن) (١) شرحبيل قال: قال رجل: يا رسول اللَّه أرأيت رجلًا يصوم الدهر كله؟ قال: "وددت (أن لا) (٢) يطعم الدهر كله"، قال: ثلثيه، قال: أكثر قال: نصفه، قال: أكثر. ثم قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "ألا أنبئكم ما يذهب (وحر) (٣) (الصدر) (٤) صيام ثلاثة أيام من كل شهر" (٥).
Hazrat Amr bin Shurahbil says that a man asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Can a person fast for the whole year?" You replied, "In my opinion, he should not fast for the entire year." The questioner said, "Can he fast for two-thirds of it?" You replied, "That is also too much." He said, "Can he fast for half of the year?" You replied, "That is also too much." Then you said, "I will tell you an amount by which the doubts and impurities of his heart will be removed: he should fast three days in every month."
