Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abdullah bin Rabah narrates that we set out as a delegation towards Hazrat Muawiyah. On the way, we met a monk. While we were with him, food was brought. The people ate the food but I did not eat. The monk asked me, "Why are you not eating?" I said, "I am fasting." He said, "I advise you to observe fasting, because a time will come when tables will be spread and the first to eat from them will be those who fast."
