Hadith 8896
٨٨٩٦ - حدثنا ابن علية عن ابن أبي عروبة عن قتادة عن سالم بن أبي الجعد (الغطفاني) (١) عن معدان بن أبي طلحة اليعمري أن عمر بن الخطاب قام يوم جمعة خطيبا، أو خطبنا يوم جمعة فقال: يا أيها الناس إنكم تأكلون شجرتين لا أراهما إلا خبيثتين: هذا الثوم (وهذا) (٢) البصل، لقد كنت أرى الرجل على عهد رسول اللَّه ﷺ يوجد ريحه منه، فيؤخذ بيده حتى يخرج (به) (٣) إلى البقيع، فمن كان أكلهما لا بد (٤) (فليمتهما) (٥) طبخا (٦).
Hazrat Ma’dan bin Abi Talhah Ya’mari reports that Hazrat Umar bin Khattab delivered a sermon to the people on Friday in which he said: O people! You eat two vegetables which, in my opinion, are bad. One is garlic and the other is onion. In the blessed time of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), if anyone ate these vegetables and their smell was detected from his mouth, he would be taken by the hand and led towards Jannat al-Baqi’. If anyone must eat them, then cook them to remove their odor.
