Hazrat Mughira bin Shu’bah narrates that one day I ate garlic and then I came to the mosque of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When I reached the mosque, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had already performed one rak’ah. When I stood up to complete my rak’ah, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) noticed the smell of garlic. He said, “Whoever eats this vegetable should not come to the mosque until its smell has gone.” Hazrat Mughira says that when I completed my prayer, I presented myself before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, “O Messenger of Allah! I have an excuse, please give me your hand.” By Allah! I found the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to be very gentle in temperament. He gave me his hand, so I placed his blessed hand on my chest. He found it to be bandaged and said, “You truly have an excuse.”
