Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Iyas Muawiyah bin Qurrah narrates that I was a guest at the house of Amr bin Nu’man bin Muqarrin. When the month of Ramadan arrived, a man came to him from Mus’ab bin Zubair with two thousand dirhams and said, “The Amir sends you greetings and says that we have given this gift from ourselves to every respected reciter. Please fulfill your needs this month with this money.” Hazrat Amr said to him, “Convey our greetings to your Amir and also tell him that, by Allah! We have not recited the Qur’an to gain the world.” Saying this, he returned the money to him.
