Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Abu Sa'id that people had gathered near the tent of Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) when Hazrat Uthman passed by them. The narrator says that I think this incident took place in Mecca. Abu Sa'id says that everyone present there except me criticized Hazrat Uthman. Among those people was also a man from Kufa. Hazrat Uthman, taking courage, said to that man, "O Kufan, do you abuse me? Then come to Madinah!" It was as if Hazrat Uthman threatened him. So that man came to Madinah, and it was said to him, "Stick with Talha." So Hazrat Talha went with him until they reached Hazrat Uthman. Hazrat Uthman said, "I will deprive you of stipends." Hazrat Talha said, "Indeed, Allah will provide sustenance."
