Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, sent a reconnaissance expedition consisting of ten men and appointed Asim bin Thabit as their leader. So they set out until, when they were at the place of Hadda, a branch of the tribe of Hudhail, Banu Lihyan, was informed about them. They sent one hundred archers towards them. These archers saw the place where they had eaten—the place where they had eaten dates—and said, "These are the pits of dates from Yathrib." Then they followed their footprints until, when Asim and his companions sensed their arrival, they took refuge on a mountain. The others (the archers) surrounded them and asked them to come down, giving them a promise of safety. Hazrat Asim said, "I will not come down on the promise of safety from any disbeliever. O Allah! Convey news about us to Your Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him." And Ibn Dathina, Bayazi, descended towards them.
