Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that we returned from Hudaybiyyah with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The companions narrate that we camped on sandy ground. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Who will keep watch for us? Hazrat Bilal said: I will keep watch. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then we will sleep. All the people slept until the sun rose. Then some people — among them so-and-so, so-and-so, and Hazrat Umar — woke up. We said (among ourselves): Talk to each other. At this, the blessed eyes of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also opened and he said: Continue as you were doing (i.e., keep talking). The narrator says: We did the same again. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever has slept or forgotten the prayer, do the same with him. The narrator states: The camel of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was lost, so I went out in search of it. He says: I found it in such a state that its rope was entangled with a tree. So I brought it to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he mounted it and we set off. The narrator states: When revelation would descend upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he would experience great intensity in that state. And we would feel this intensity upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood aside behind us and covered his blessed head with his garment. And the signs of great intensity appeared upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) until we realized that revelation was being sent down upon him. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us and informed us that revelation had been sent down upon him.
