Hadith 39386
٣٩٣٨٦ - حدثنا عفان قال: حدثنا حماد بن سلمة قال: أخبرنا ثابت عن أنس أن أبا بكر كان رديف النبي ﷺ من مكة إلى المدينة، وكان أبو بكر يختلف إلى الشام، فكان يعرف وكان النبي ﵊ لا يعرف، فكانوا يقولون: يا أبا بكر من هذا الغلام بيهت يديك؟ قال: (هاد) (١) يهديني السبيل، قال: فلما دنوا من المدينة نزلا الحرة و (بعثا) (٢) إلى الأنصار فجاؤوا، قال: فشهدته يوم دخل المدينة فما رأيت يوما كان أحسن ولا أضوأ من يوم دخل علينا فيه، وشهدت يوم مات فما رأيت يوما كان أقبح ولا أظلم من يوم مات فيه ﷺ (٣).
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas that Hazrat Abu Bakr was the companion of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) from Makkah to Madinah. And Hazrat Abu Bakr used to travel to and from Syria, so he was recognized, but the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was not recognized. So people would ask, "O Abu Bakr! Who is this young man with you?" Hazrat Abu Bakr would reply, "He is my guide, showing me the way." The narrator says, when both of them approached Madinah, they dismounted at Harrah. Someone was sent to the Ansar, and they also came. Hazrat Anas says, "I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the day he entered Madinah, and I have never seen a day more beautiful and radiant than the day when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us. And then, on the day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, I was also present, and I have never seen a day worse and darker than the day on which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away."
