Hadith 38446
٣٨٤٤٦ - حدثنا عفان قال: حدثنا مبارك (١) قال: حدثنا بكر عن عدي بن أرطأة عن رجل كان من صدر هذه الأمة قال: كانوا إذا أثنوا عليه فسمع ذلك قال: اللهم لا تؤاخذني بما يقولون، واغفر لي ما لا يعلمون (٢).
Hazrat Adi bin Arta’ah, may Allah have mercy on him, narrates about an early person of this Ummah that when people praised him and he heard it, he prayed: “O Allah! Do not hold me accountable for what they say, and forgive what they do not know.”
