Hadith 37823
٣٧٨٢٣ - حدثنا عفان بن مسلم (قال) (١): حدثنا جويرية بن أسماء (قال) (٢): حدثنا نافع قال: قال عبد الملك بن عمر لعمر بن عبد العزيز: يا أمير المؤمنين، ما يمنعك أن (تمضي) (٣) للذي تريد، فوالذي نفسي بيده ما أبا لي لو غلت بي وبك فيه القدور، قال: وحق هذا منك يا بني؟ قال: نعم واللَّه، قال: الحمد للَّه الذي جعل لي من ذريتي (من) (٤) يعينني على أمر ربي، يا بني لو (بدهت) (٥) الناس بالذي تقول لم آمن أن ينكروها، فإذا أنكروها لم أجد بدا من السيف، ولا خير في خير لا يأتي إلا بالسيف، يا بني إني أروض الناس رياضة الصعب، فإن يطل بي (عمر) (٦) فإني أرجو أن ينفذ اللَّه لي شيئًا، وإن تعد علي منية فقد علم اللَّه الذي أريد.
Hazrat Nafi narrates that Abdul Malik bin Umar said to Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz: O Commander of the Faithful! What is preventing you from fulfilling your intention? By the One in Whose hand is my life! I do not care if pots boil because of you and me. Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him) said: O my son! Is this really from you? Abdul Malik said: Yes, by Allah! He (may Allah have mercy on him) said: All praise is due to Allah Who has created in my progeny such people who assist me in carrying out the command of Allah. O my son! If I were to suddenly bring forth what you have said to the people, I would not be safe from their rejection. Then, when they would reject, I would have no option but the sword. And there is no goodness in any good that comes by the sword. O my son! I am dealing with the people like one who is trying to control a difficult camel. So, if my life is prolonged, I hope that Allah Almighty will enforce something for me, and if death overtakes me, then Allah Almighty knows my intention.
