Hadith 37395

It is narrated from Hazrat Shahr bin Hawshab that he says: Hazrat Salman went to the house of Hazrat Abu Darda but did not find him there. So he (may Allah be pleased with him) greeted Umm Darda (may Allah be pleased with her) and said: Where is my brother? She replied: In the mosque, and she was wearing her husband's Qutwani cloak. Umm Darda (may Allah be pleased with her) threw an old cushion towards him. He refused to sit on it, took off his turban, placed it on the ground, and sat on it. The narrator says: Then Hazrat Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived, carrying meat worth two dirhams. So Umm Darda stood up, cooked it, and baked bread. Then she brought the food. Hazrat Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) was fasting. Hazrat Salman said: Who will eat with me? She said: Umm Darda will eat with you. Hazrat Salman did not let him break his fast alone. Then Hazrat Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Umm Darda: You have seen his worn-out condition. What has happened to you? She replied: Your brother has no desire for women. He fasts during the day and stands in prayer at night. So he spent the night at their place. Whenever Hazrat Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) intended to stand (for prayer), Hazrat Salman would stop him, until the time before Fajr came, then he stood up, performed ablution, and offered a few rak‘ahs. The narrator says: Upon this, Hazrat Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: You have stopped me from my prayer. Hazrat Salman said to him: Pray and sleep. Fast and break your fast, for your family has a right over you, and your eyes have a right over you.
