Hadith 37214
٣٧٢١٤ - حدثنا عبد اللَّه بن إدريس عن إسماعيل وسفيان عن زبيد بن الحارث عن رجل من بني عامر قال: قال علي: إنما أخاف عليكم اثنتين: طول الأمل واتباع الهوى، فإن طول الأمل ينسي الآخرة، وإن اتباع الهوى يصد عن الحق، وإن الدنيا قد ترحلت مدبرة، وأن الآخرة مقبلة، ولكل واحدة منهما بنون فكونوا من أبناء الآخرة فإن اليوم عمل ولا حساب، وغدا حساب ولا عمل (١).
It is narrated from a man of Banu Amir who says that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I fear only two things for you: long hopes and following desires. Because having long hopes makes one forget the Hereafter, and following desires becomes an obstacle to the truth. Surely, the world is turning its back and departing, and the Hereafter is coming. And each of them has children. So be children of the Hereafter. For today there is action, there is no reckoning, and tomorrow there will be reckoning, there will be no action.
