Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Kulayb Jurmi narrates that when we laid siege to the area called Tawj, our leadership was in the hands of Mujashi‘ bin Mas‘ud of Banu Sulaym. When we conquered Tawj, at that time I was wearing an old shirt. I went to a slain non-Arab and took off his shirt, washed it, cleaned it, and wore it to enter the settlement. From the settlement, I took a needle and thread and sewed my shirt. After that, Hazrat Mujashi‘ addressed the warriors and said, "O people! Do not commit any kind of dishonesty. Whoever commits dishonesty will have to account for it on the Day of Judgment, even if it is just a needle." Then I took off that shirt and tore again the part of my shirt that I had sewn with that thread. Then I put the needle and thread back where I had taken them from. Then, in my lifetime, I saw the time when people would commit dishonesty in large quantities, and if they were asked what they were doing, they would say, "Our share in the spoils is more than this."
