Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Qais narrates that during the Battle of Qadisiyyah, Hazrat Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas developed a boil on his foot and was unable to go for combat. There was restlessness among the people. The wife of Hazrat Sa’d, who had previously been married to Mathna bin Harithah Shaybani, said, “There is no one like Mathna for the horsemen!” Upon this, Hazrat Sa’d slapped her. She said, “Out of cowardice and honor!” The narrator says that then we defeated the enemies.
