Hadith 35866
٣٥٨٦٦ - حدثنا عيسى بن يونس عن الأوزاعي عن قرة بن عبد الرحمن عن يزيد بن أبي حبيب المصري قال: بعث أبو بكر أو عمر -شك الأوزاعي- عقبة بن عامر الجهني ومسلمة بن مخلد الأنصاري إلى مصر، قال: ففتح لهم، قال: فبعثوا برأس يناق البطريق، فلما رآه أنكر ذلك، فقال: إنهم يصنعون بنا مثل هذا، فقال: (استنان) (١) بفارس والروم؟ لا يحمل إلينا رأس، إنما يكفينا من ذلك الكتاب والخبر (٢).
Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) or Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) sent Uqbah bin Amir and Muslamah bin Makhlad (may Allah be pleased with them both) towards Egypt for jihad. They conquered Egypt and sent the head of Yanaq the Patrician to them. When they saw the head, they disliked it. These noble companions said, "These people also do the same to us." Hazrat Abu Bakr or Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "Severed heads should not be sent to us. It is sufficient for us that the news of victory or a letter is sent."
