Hadith 35247
٣٥٢٤٧ - حدثنا ابن علية عن يونس عن الحسن أن عيونا لمسيلمة أخذوا رجلين من المسلمين فأتوه بهما فقال لأحدهما: أتشهد أن محمدا رسول اللَّه؟ قال: نعم، (فقال) (١): أتشهد أن محمدًا رسول اللَّه؟ قال: نعم، قال: أتشهد أني رسول اللَّه؟ قال: فأهوى إلى أذنيه فقال: إني أصم، قال: ما لك إذا قلت لك: (تشهد) (٢) أني رسول اللَّه قلت: إني أصم، فأمر به فقتل، وقال للآخر: (أتشهد) (٣) أن محمدًا رسول اللَّه؟ قال: نعم (فقال) (٤): أتشهد أني رسول اللَّه؟ قال: نعم، فأرسله، فأتى النبي ﷺ فقال: (يا) (٥) رسول اللَّه هلكت، قال: "وما شأنك؟ "، ⦗٣٤٩⦘ (فأخبره) (٦) بقصته وقصة صاحبه، فقال: "أما صاحبك فمضى على إيمانه، وأما أنت فأخذت بالرخصة" (٧).
Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that the spies of Musaylimah the Liar captured two Muslims and brought them before Musaylimah. He said to one of them: "Do you testify that Muhammad (ﷺ) is the Messenger of Allah?" He replied: "Yes!" He then asked: "Do you testify that Muhammad (ﷺ) is the Messenger of Allah?" He replied: "Yes!" He asked: "Do you testify that I am the messenger of Allah?" That Companion pointed towards his ears and said: "I am deaf." Musaylimah the Liar said: "What is your problem? When I ask you whether you testify that I am the messenger of Allah, you say that you are deaf?" So he ordered, and that Companion was killed.
Musaylimah the Liar then said to the other person: "Do you testify that Muhammad (ﷺ) is the Messenger of Allah?" He replied: "Yes!" He then asked: "Do you testify that I am the messenger of Allah?" He replied: "Yes!" So he let him go.
This person came to the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)! I am ruined!" The Prophet (ﷺ) asked: "What happened?" He narrated his and his companion's incident, so the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "In any case, your companion died in a state of faith, and as for you, you acted upon the concession."
Musaylimah the Liar then said to the other person: "Do you testify that Muhammad (ﷺ) is the Messenger of Allah?" He replied: "Yes!" He then asked: "Do you testify that I am the messenger of Allah?" He replied: "Yes!" So he let him go.
