Hadith 35002
٣٥٠٠٢ - حدثنا أبو أسامة عن محمد بن عمرو عن عمر بن عبد العزيز قال: السلطان ولي (قتلى) (١) من حارب الدين وأن قتل أخا امرئ وأباه، فليس إلى من يحارب الدين ويسعى في الأرض فسادا سبيل -يعني دون السلطان، ولا يقصر عن الحدود بعد أن تبلغ إلى الإمام، فإن إقامتها من السنة.
Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz says that the ruler is responsible for executing the person who causes corruption in religion. No one except the ruler has this authority. When the prescribed punishments reach the Imam, there is no way for them to be pardoned, and enforcing them is Sunnah.
