Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu al-Kanood (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Khabbab bin Al-Aratt (may Allah be pleased with him) said regarding the reason for the revelation of this verse: The verse { وَلاَ تَطْرُدِ الَّذِینَ یَدْعُونَ رَبَّہُمْ بِالْغَدَاۃِ وَالْعَشِیِّ یُرِیدُونَ وَجْہَہُ } that Aqra’ bin Habis al-Tamimi and ‘Uyainah bin Hisn al-Fazari came and found the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) sitting with Hazrat Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him), Hazrat Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him), Hazrat Suhaib (may Allah be pleased with him), and Hazrat Khabbab bin Al-Aratt (may Allah be pleased with him), who were the weakest among the Muslims. They looked down upon us with contempt. Then these people came to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and took him aside in private and said: We would like you to appoint a separate gathering for us so that the Arabs may know of our superiority because the delegations of the Arabs come to you and we feel ashamed that they see us sitting with these slaves. Therefore, when we come to you, please remove these people from our presence, and when we are finished, then if you wish, you may sit with them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes! That is fine, they said. They said: Write this down for us. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called for a document so that this could be written, and called Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) to write it. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to write this, we were sitting in a corner when Hazrat Jibreel (peace be upon him) descended with these verses: from { وَلاَ تَطْرُدِ الَّذِینَ یَدْعُونَ رَبَّہُمْ بِالْغَدَاۃِ وَالْعَشِیِّ یُرِیدُونَ وَجْہَہُ } to { فَتَطْرُدَہُمْ فَتَکُونَ مِنَ الظَّالِمِینَ }.
