Hazrat Abdul Aziz bin Rafee’ (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that when Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was about to go to the Battle of Siffin, he appointed Hazrat Abu Mas’ood (may Allah be pleased with him) as the caliph over the people. Then when Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) returned, he said to him: “Did you say that which has reached me from you, O Farukh? Surely, you are old; indeed, your intellect has gone.” He (may Allah have mercy on him) replied: “Has my intellect gone? Then, according to Allah and His Messenger ﷺ, Paradise has become obligatory for me; you know this better.”
