Hazrat Aqeel says that Hazrat Ibn Shahab was asked: If, on a rainy day, people pray facing a direction other than the qiblah, and during the prayer they realize that the qiblah is in another direction, what should they do? He replied that they should turn towards the qiblah, and there is no need to repeat the part of the prayer they have already performed. When the companions of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) were commanded to make the Ka'bah their qiblah, they did the same. Although previously they used to pray facing Bayt al-Maqdis, after this command they turned towards the Ka'bah. It was as if they performed part of the prayer facing Bayt al-Maqdis and part of it facing the Ka'bah.
