Hadith 33904
٣٣٩٠٤ - حدثنا محمد بن بشر قال ثنا إسماعيل بن أبي خالد قال: ثنا عبد اللَّه بن عيسى عن عبد الرحمن بن أبي ليلى قال: أخبرني أُبيُ بن كعب أن النبي ﷺ قال له: "يا أُبيُ إن ربي أرسل إلي أن أقرأ القرآن على حرف، (فرددت) (١) إليه أن هوّن على أمتي، فرد الي أن اقرأ القرآن على سبعة أحرف، ولك بكل ردة رددتكها مسألة تسألنيها، قال: قلت: اللهم اغفر لأمتي، اللهم اغفر لأمتي، وأخرت الثالثة إلى يوم يرغب الي فيه الخلق حتى إبراهيم" (٢).
Hazrat Ubayy narrates that the Prophet ﷺ said to me: O Ubayy! My Lord has revealed to me to recite the Qur'an on one mode (harf). I submitted: Make it easy for my ummah. Allah said: Recite the Qur'an on seven modes (ahruf), and for each time you ask, you have a supplication. The Prophet ﷺ said: O Allah! Forgive my ummah. O Allah! Forgive my ummah. And I have postponed the third supplication for the Day when the creation will turn towards me, even Ibrahim (peace be upon him).
