Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When the night of Mi'raj occurred and I spent the morning in Makkah, I was astonished about my matter and felt that people would belie me. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sat alone, saddened. Abu Jahl passed by and came to sit with him, and mockingly asked, "Has something happened?" He replied, "Yes!" He asked, "What happened?" He replied, "I was taken on a night journey last night." He asked, "To where?" He replied, "To Bayt al-Maqdis." He asked, "Then you reached us by morning?" He replied, "Yes!" Abu Jahl did not show denial, fearing that if he called his people to the Prophet, perhaps he would deny it. So he said, "O assembly of Banu Ka'b ibn Lu'ayy! Come here!" The gathering dispersed and they came and sat with the two of them. He said to the Prophet, "Tell your people what you told me." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I was taken on a night journey last night." They asked, "To where?" He replied, "To Bayt al-Maqdis." They said, "Then you reached us by morning?" He replied, "Yes!" It is said that some began to clap their hands and some, out of astonishment, placed their hands on their heads, and they began to say to me, "Can you describe the mosque to us?" Some among the people had traveled to that city and seen the mosque. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I began to describe it to them, until I became unsure about some of its features. Then the mosque was brought before me while I was looking at it, and it was placed in front of the house of Aqil or the house of Iqal. I began to describe it while looking at it. The people said, 'By Allah, the description is absolutely correct.'"
