Hazrat Zubaid, may Allah have mercy on him, narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: O Harith bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, in what state did you begin your morning? He, may Allah be pleased with him, replied: I began my morning in the state of being a true believer. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Surely, every statement has a reality; what is the reality of your faith? He, may Allah be pleased with him, replied: I began my morning in such a state that my soul has turned away from the world, so I kept myself awake at night and kept myself thirsty during the day. It is as if I am looking at the Throne of my Lord, that it has appeared for reckoning. And it is as if I am looking at the people of Paradise, that they are conversing with one another in Paradise, and it is as if I am hearing the cries and screams of the people of Hell. The narrator says, then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him: This is a servant whose heart has been filled with the light of faith. If you have recognized this, then hold fast to it.
