Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that Hazrat Umar bin Khattab told me: On the day of the Battle of Badr, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) faced the Qiblah, spread his hands, and made this supplication: O Allah! Grant me what You have promised me. O Allah! If You destroy this group of Muslims, then never again will You be worshipped on the earth. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) continued to implore his Lord and supplicate to Him, until his cloak fell from his shoulders onto the ground. Then Allah revealed this verse: Translation: When you were crying out to your Lord for help, so He answered your prayer, (and said) Indeed, I will help you with a thousand angels, following one another in succession.
