Hazrat Humaid narrates that Hazrat Anas was asked: Did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) raise his hands while supplicating? He replied: Yes! On a Friday, people complained to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). They said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! There is no rain, the land has dried up, and the livestock have perished! Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his hands so high in supplication that I saw the whiteness of his armpits. And there was not a single cloud in the sky. We had performed the prayer, and then a strong young man whose house was nearby and who intended to return home—Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says—then for a whole week, rain continued to fall upon us. Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The people said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! The houses have collapsed and the riders have been stranded! Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled at the quick impatience of the son of Adam, then supplicated: O Allah! Let it fall around us and not upon us. Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Then the sky cleared.
