Hazrat Naeem narrates that Hazrat Ma'iz bin Malik came to the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Indeed, I have committed adultery, so implement the judgment of Allah's Book upon me. He turned away from him. He said again: Indeed I have committed adultery, so establish upon me the command of Allah's Book. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) again turned away from him, until he mentioned it four times. He said: Take him and stone him. When the pain of the stones became very severe for him, he ran. Just then, Hazrat Abdullah bin Unais or Ibn Anas came out from his jungle and struck him with a camel's shinbone, causing him to fall. So the people stoned him until he was killed. Then it was mentioned before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about his running. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Why did you not leave him so that he might repent, and Allah would accept his repentance? O Hazzal, or he said: O Hazzan! If you had covered him with your garment, it would have been better for you than this deed that you have done.
