Hadith 28196
٢٨١٩٦ - حدثنا غندر عن شعبة عن الحكم قال: سمعت عروة بن النزال (يحدث عن معاذ بن جبل أن النبي ﷺ) (١) قال له: " (ألا) (٢) أدلك على أملك ذلك كله؟ "، قال: قلت: يا رسول اللَّه (ما) (٣) قولك: "ألا أدلك على أملك ذلك كله؟ " (قال) (٤): فأشار [رسول اللَّه ﷺ (بيده) (٥) إلى لسانه، قال: قلت يا رسول اللَّه وإنا لنؤاخذ] (٦) بما نتكلم به؟ قال: "ثكلتك أمك يا معاذ وهل يكب الناس على ⦗٤٧٢⦘ (مناخرهم) (٧) إلا حصائد ألسنتهم" (٨).
Hazrat Mu'adh bin Jabal narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Shall I not inform you of the root of all these things?" He says: I submitted, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Will you not tell me the root of all things?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) pointed towards his tongue. I said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Will we be held accountable for whatever we utter with our tongues?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "O Mu'adh! May your mother lose you. The thing that will throw people on their faces into Hell will be the harvests of their tongues."
