A blind man came to Hazrat Shurayh disputing about a slave girl (who had been given to him as an 'Umri gift). Hazrat Shurayh gave the verdict in favor of the one who had given her as an 'Umri gift. The man said, "Have you given a verdict against me?" He replied, "I have not given a verdict against you, rather the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) has already given the verdict: Whoever is made the owner of something for life, it belongs to him for life and after his death as well."
