Hadith 23629
٢٣٦٢٩ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع قال: حدثنا الأعمش عن شقيق عن قيس بن أبي (غرزة) (١) قال: كنا نبتاع (الأوساق) (٢) بالمدينة، وكنا نسمي أنفسنا السماسرة، (فأتانا) (٣) النبي ﷺ فسمانا باسم هو أحسن مما كنا نسمي به أنفسنا، فقال: "يا معشر التجار! إن هذا البيع يحضره اللغو والحلف فشوبوه بالصدقة" (٤).
Hazrat Qais (may Allah have mercy on him) says that we used to trade in Madinah, and we used to call ourselves Samasirah (brokers). Then the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to us and called us by a better name than the one we used to call ourselves. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: O merchants! In this business, idle talk and swearing occur, so make up for it by giving charity.
