Hadith 23237
٢٣٢٣٧ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا جرير عن أبي (سنان) (١) (عن) (٢) عبد اللَّه بن الحارث قال: مر رجل بقوم فيهم رسول اللَّه ﷺ ومعه ثوب، (٣) أراه قال: (برد) (٤) فقال له بعضهم: بكم ابتعت؟ أراه قال: هو (بزيادة) (٥) على ثمنه. ثم قال: كذبت، وفيهم رسول اللَّه ﷺ فرجع فقال: يا رسول اللَّه ابتعته بكذا وكذا بدون ما (قال) (٦)، فقال: رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "تصدق بالفضل" (٧).
It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Harith (may Allah be pleased with him) that: A man passed by a group of people among whom the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was also present. He had a piece of cloth, for which he stated a price higher than its actual value. The narrator says it was a sheet. Some people from the group asked him: For how much are you selling it? I think he stated a price higher than its value. Then he said that he had lied. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was also among them. Then he returned and submitted, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I sold it for such and such an amount, which was more than its actual value." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whatever extra you have received, give it in charity."
