Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Shurayh (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) instructed me: I do not consider the gifting of a slave-girl permissible until she has spent a year in the house or has given birth to a child. Ismail (may Allah have mercy on him) says that I asked Hazrat Sha’bi (may Allah have mercy on him): If the girl remains unmarried and a virgin, is it then permissible? He (may Allah have mercy on him) replied: Yes, it is permissible.
