Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abdullah bin Ubaid bin Umair (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Auf (may Allah be pleased with him) sold one of his slave women before being certain that her womb was empty. Later, it became apparent to the buyer that she was pregnant. This case was presented before Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Auf (may Allah be pleased with him), "Did you have intercourse with her?" He admitted it. Then he asked, "Did you sell her without being certain that her womb was clear?" He admitted it. Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "You should not have done so." Then he called for experts in lineage, who examined the child and determined that the child belonged to Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Auf (may Allah be pleased with him). Afterwards, Hazrat Abdur Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) had many children from that slave woman, and no one considered it blameworthy.
