Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) expressed his desire to marry Hazrat Ali’s (may Allah be pleased with him) daughter, Hazrat Umm Kulthum. Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) replied that she was still young. Then Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) sent a message to Hazrat Umm Kulthum in which he joked with her. She replied, “If you were not old or if you were not the Commander of the Faithful...” Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) liked the relationship of kinship with Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), so he again sent a marriage proposal, and Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) married her to him.
