Hadith 16787
١٦٧٨٧ - حدثنا يحيى بن يمان عن سفيان عن (حبيب) (١) عن ابن (عباس) (٢): ﴿وَأَخَذْنَ مِنْكُمْ مِيثَاقًا غَلِيظًا﴾، قال: ﴿فَإِمْسَاكٌ بِمَعْرُوفٍ أَوْ تَسْرِيحٌ بِإِحْسَانٍ﴾ (٣).
Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), in the explanation of the verse of the Holy Qur'an { وَأَخَذْنَ مِنْکُمْ مِیثَاقًا غَلِیظًا }, says that it means to keep (the wife) with kindness (to live together in a good manner) or to release (her) with goodness (to let her go in a good way).
