Hadith 15666
١٥٦٦٦ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا علي بن هاشم عن ابن أبي ليلى عن عطاء عن يعلى بن أمية قال: لما أن حج عمر استلم الركن وكان يعلى بن أمية يستلم الأركان كلها، فقال له عمر: يا يعلى ما تفعل؟ قال: استلمها كلها؛ لأنه ليس شيء من البيت يهجر، قال: فقال عمر: أما (رأيت) (١) رسول اللَّه ﷺ لم يستلم منها إلا الحجر قال: بلى، قال: (فمالك به أسوة) (٢) قال: بلى (٣).
It is narrated from Hazrat Ata that when Hazrat Umar performed Hajj, he performed Istilam of the Black Stone (Hajar Aswad), and Hazrat Ya'la bin Umayyah (may Allah be pleased with him) performed Istilam of all the corners. Hazrat Umar said to him: O Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him)! What have you done? Hazrat Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him) replied that he had performed Istilam of all the corners because there is nothing of the Ka'bah that should be left (without Istilam). Hazrat Umar said: Did you not see that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed Istilam of only the Black Stone? Hazrat Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: Why not. Hazrat Umar said: Then is there not a model for you in this? Hazrat Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: Why not.
