Hadith 2172
`Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that` the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not recite the Qur'an to the jinn, nor did he see them. The fact is that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went with his companions at that time to the market of 'Ukaz, when the doors of the heavens had been closed to the devils and flames of fire were being hurled at them. So a group of devils went back to their people and said, "Our access to the heavens has been blocked and flames of fire are being thrown at us." They said, "There must be some new matter that is the cause of this, so go around to the east and west and find out what is the reason that the news from the heavens has stopped coming." They began to roam the earth, turning to the east and west. Some of them came towards Tihamah (the land of Hijaz) to go to the market of 'Ukaz, and at that time the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was leading his companions in the Fajr prayer at (the place of) Nakhlah. When they heard the Qur'an, they listened attentively and said, "This is the very reason the news from the heavens has ceased." Then they returned to their people and said, "O our people! We have heard a wondrous Qur'an which guides to the right path, so we have believed in it and we will never associate anyone with Allah." Then Allah the Exalted revealed Surah al-Jinn to His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Say (O Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him): It has been revealed to me that a group of jinn listened (to the Qur'an)."
