Mukhtasar Muslim

‘Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that some Muslims saw a man with a few goats. He said, “As-salamu Alaikum.” The Muslims seized him, killed him, and took the goats. Then this verse was revealed: “Do not say to the one who greets you with peace that you are not a believer (but only say Salam to save your life).” Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) recited (Salam) in this verse, and some have recited (Silm) (so the meaning would be: the one who approaches you with peace).
