Hadith 2102
‘It is narrated from ‘Amir bin Wathilah that Nafi‘ bin ‘Abd al-Harith met Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) at (the place of) ‘Usfan, and Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) had appointed him as the governor/collector over Makkah. Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked, “Whom have you appointed as governor over the people of the wilderness?” He replied, “Ibn Abza.” Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “Who is Ibn Abza?” He replied, “One of our freed slaves.” Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “You have appointed a slave over them as governor?” He replied, “He is a reciter of the Book of Allah and well-versed in the knowledge of inheritance (i.e., the laws of inheritance which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has declared to be half of knowledge).” Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “Listen! Your Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has said that Allah, because of this Book, will raise some people and will lower others.”
