Hadith 2035
´Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that` the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) narrated to us two hadiths (regarding trust). I have witnessed one, and I am waiting for the fulfillment of the other. (The first hadith is that) the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told us that trust descended to the root of people's hearts. Then the Qur'an was revealed, so they acquired the Qur'an and they acquired the hadith. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) narrated to us (the second) hadith that trust will be taken away. He said that a person will sleep for a short while, then trust will be taken away from his heart and its mark will remain like a faint spot. Then he will sleep again, and trust will be taken away from his heart and its mark will remain like a blister, as if you roll a burning coal on your foot, then the skin swells and a blister appears, which you see as raised and swollen, but there is nothing inside it. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took a pebble and rolled it on his foot and said that people will buy and sell, and none among them will fulfill trust, to the extent that people will say, "There is a trustworthy person in such-and-such tribe," and to the extent that it will be said about a person, "How clever, pleasant, and wise he is" (i.e., they will praise him), but there will not be even a mustard seed's worth of faith in his heart. Then Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that a time has passed over me when I used to deal (i.e., conduct transactions) with everyone without any fear, because if he was a Muslim, his religion would prevent him from dishonesty, and if he was a Christian or a Jew, the ruler would prevent him from dishonesty. But today, I will never deal with you people, except with so-and-so and so-and-so.
