Hadith 1859
‘Sayyiduna Jarir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that some Bedouins came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); they were wearing blankets. When the Prophet (peace be upon him) saw their bad condition, he encouraged the people to give charity. The people delayed in giving charity, to the extent that the sadness became apparent on the face of the Prophet (peace be upon him). Then an Ansari man came with a bag of silver coins, then another came, until (charity and donations) formed a chain, and happiness became apparent on the face of the Prophet (peace be upon him). Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Whoever initiates a good practice in Islam (i.e., establishes a good deed which is rewarded according to Shariah and its example is found in the Qur’an and Sunnah), and then people act upon it after him, he will have a reward equal to all those who act upon it, and nothing will be diminished from the reward of those who act. And whoever initiates an evil practice in Islam (for example, an innovation or sinful act), and people act upon it after him, then the sin of all those who act upon it will be written for him, and nothing will be diminished from the sins of those who act.
