Hadith 1711
Abu Zumail says that Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated to me and said: The Muslims did not pay attention to Abu Sufyan, nor did they sit with him (because Abu Sufyan had fought against the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, several times and was a fierce enemy of the Muslims). Once, he spoke to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, and said: O Prophet of Allah, grant me three things. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: Very well. Abu Sufyan said: I have a woman who is the most beautiful and attractive among all the Arabs, Umm Habibah, my daughter; I will marry her to you. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: Very well. The second (request) is that make my son Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) your scribe. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: Very well. The third is, command me to fight against the disbelievers (just as before Islam I used to fight against the Muslims). The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: Very well. Abu Zumail said: If he had not asked for these things from the Prophet, peace be upon him, the Prophet would not have given them, because (it was the habit of the Prophet, peace be upon him) that whenever anyone asked him for something, he would agree.
