Hadith 1707
‘Sayyiduna Abu Burdah narrates from his father Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) that: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the battle of Hunayn, he sent Sayyiduna Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) with an army to Autas, where he confronted Duraid bin as-Simmah. Duraid bin as-Simmah was killed, and Allah granted defeat to those with him. Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had also sent me with Sayyiduna Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him). Then, an arrow from a man of Banu Jusham struck Sayyiduna Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) in the knee and became lodged in his knee. I went to him and asked, “O uncle! Who shot you with this arrow?” He said, “This man killed me, and this man shot me with the arrow.” Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “I pursued that man and caught up with him. When he saw me, he turned his back and fled. I chased after him and began to say, ‘O shameless one! Are you not an Arab? Will you not stand your ground?’ So he stopped. Then I confronted him; he struck at me and I struck at him, and finally, I killed him with my sword. Then I returned to Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, ‘Allah has caused the killer to be killed.’ Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) said, ‘Now pull out this arrow.’ I pulled it out, and water came out from the place of the arrow (not blood; perhaps the arrow was poisoned). Abu Amir said, ‘O my nephew! Go to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and convey my greetings, and say: Pray for Abu Amir’s forgiveness.’ Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) said, ‘Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) made me the leader of the people, and he lived for a short while, then passed away.’ When I returned to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he was in a small room on a bed made of palm fibers, which had left marks on his back and sides. I said, ‘Abu Amir requested you to pray for his forgiveness.’ So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called for water, performed ablution, then raised both hands and said, ‘O Allah! Forgive Ubaid Abu Amir (his name was Ubaid bin Sulaim),’ until I saw the whiteness of the armpits of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Then he said, ‘O Allah! Make Abu Amir the leader of many people on the Day of Resurrection.’ I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah! Pray for my forgiveness as well.’ So he said, ‘O Allah! Forgive the sins of Abdullah bin Qais and grant him an honorable place on the Day of Resurrection.’ Abu Burdah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, ‘One supplication was made for Abu Amir and one supplication was made for Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with them both).’
