Hadith 1694
Abu’l-Ahwas says: We were in the house of Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him), and there were several companions of Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with them both) there, and they were looking at a copy of the Qur’an, when suddenly Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up. Abu Mas’ud said: I do not know that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) left behind anyone after him who knew the Qur’an better than the person who has just stood up. Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If you say this (then it is correct), and his condition was such that when we were absent, he was present, and when we were prevented, he was granted permission (to go to the Messenger of Allah).

Hadith 1695
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "And whoever conceals anything, he will bring it forth on the Day of Resurrection." (Surah: Aal-e-Imran: 161) Then he said: "To whose recitation do you command me to recite the Qur'an? I have recited more than seventy surahs before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) know that I am most knowledgeable of Allah's Book among them. And if I knew that anyone was more knowledgeable of Allah's Book than me, I would travel to him." Shafeeq said: "I have sat in the circles of the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him); I have not heard anyone rejecting the statement of Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) or finding fault with him."

Hadith 1696
Masruq says: We were with Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them) when we mentioned Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with them). He said: You have mentioned a person whom I have loved ever since I heard a hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). I heard him say: Learn the Qur'an from four people: from the son of Umm Abd (i.e., Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud)—and he (the Prophet) started with him—and from Ubayy bin Ka'b, and from Salim, the freed slave of Abu Hudhaifah, and from Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with them).
