Hadith 1647
‘Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says that one night (while returning from a battle) on the way to Madinah, the eyes of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) opened and he could not sleep, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “I wish that someone from among my companions, a fortunate one, would guard me throughout the night.” Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says that just then we heard the sound of weapons, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Who is it?” A voice replied: “O Messenger of Allah! It is Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas.” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Why have you come?” He replied: “I felt fear for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) within myself, so I have come to guard you.” Thus, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for him and then slept.

Hadith 1648
Sayyiduna Amir bin Sa’d narrates from his father, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gathered his parents for him on the day of Uhud. Sayyiduna Sa’d, may Allah be pleased with him, said that there was a man among the polytheists who had caused great harm to many Muslims (i.e., he had martyred many Muslims). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “O Sa’d, shoot arrows, may my parents be sacrificed for you.” I took out an arrow for him which did not have a tip; it struck his rib and he (the polytheist) fell down, and his private parts became exposed. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) laughed upon seeing this, to the extent that I saw his blessed teeth.

Hadith 1649
‘Mus’ab bin Sa’d narrates from his father (may Allah be pleased with him) that’ several verses of the Qur’an were revealed about him. He says that his mother had sworn that she would never speak to him until he left his religion (i.e., Islam). And she would neither eat nor drink. She said, “Allah Almighty has commanded you to obey your parents, and I am your mother, and I command you to do this.” Then for three days she remained like this, eating and drinking nothing, until she fainted. Finally, one of her sons, whose name was ‘Ammarah, stood up and gave her water to drink. Then she began to curse Sayyiduna Sa’d, so Allah the Exalted revealed these verses in the Noble Qur’an: “And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents” (__QUR_N__) (Al-‘Ankabut: 8), “But if they strive to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them (i.e., do not commit shirk), but accompany them in this world with appropriate kindness” (__QUR_N__) (Luqman: 5).
And once, a large amount of war booty came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and among it was a sword. I took it and brought it to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, “O Messenger of Allah! Please give me this sword as a gift, as you know my situation.” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Put it back where you took it from.” I went and intended to put it back in the pile of war booty, but my heart reproached me, so I returned to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, “Please give me this sword.” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sternly said, “Put it back where you took it from.” Then Allah Almighty revealed this verse: “They ask you about the spoils of war” (__QUR_N__) (Al-Anfal: 1).
Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I became ill, so I sent for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He came, and I said, “Allow me to distribute my wealth to whomever I wish.” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not permit it. I said, “Then may I give away half my wealth?” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not permit it. I said, “Then may I give away a third of my wealth?” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent. Then it was established that giving away a third of one’s wealth is permissible.
Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Once I went to some people among the Ansar and Muhajirin, and they said, “Come, we will give you food and wine,” and at that time wine had not yet been forbidden. I went with them to a garden, where the meat of a camel’s head was roasted, and a waterskin of wine was placed. I ate the meat and drank the wine with them. There, the topic of the Muhajirin and Ansar came up, so I said, “The Muhajirin are better than the Ansar.” A man took a bone from the jaw and struck me with it, injuring my nose. I reported this to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Then Allah Almighty revealed this verse because of me: “Wine, gambling, idols, and divining arrows are all filth and the work of Satan” (__QUR_N__) (Al-Ma’idah: 90).

Hadith 1650
Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We were six men with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The polytheists said, “Drive these people away from you; they will not dare to confront us.” Among those people were myself, Ibn Mas’ud, a man from Hudhail, Bilal, and two others whose names I do not mention. Whatever Allah willed came to your heart, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke to himself inwardly. Then Allah revealed this verse: “Do not drive away those who call upon their Lord morning and evening, seeking His pleasure.” (__QUR_6:52__)
