Mukhtasar Muslim

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Angel of Death (Azra’il, peace be upon him) came to Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) and said, “O Musa! Respond to the call of your Lord (i.e., your time of death has come).” So Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) struck him on the eye, causing his eye to burst. The angel returned to Allah Almighty and said, “O Lord! You have sent me to a servant who does not want to die; he has put out my eye.” Allah Almighty restored his eye and said, “Go back to My servant and say: If you wish to live, place your hand on the back of an ox, and for every hair your hand covers, you will live one year.” Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) asked, “O Lord! What will happen after that?” Allah said, “Then death will come.” Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) said, “Then it is better to die now. O my Lord, grant me death at a distance of a stone’s throw from the Sacred Land.” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: By Allah, if I were there, I would show you the grave of Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him), which is by the side of the road near a red sand hill.
