Hadith 1598
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) heard something from his companions (which was bad), so he delivered a sermon and said: Paradise and Hell were brought before me, and I have never seen such goodness and such evil as I have seen today (meaning the blessings in Paradise and the punishment in Hell). If you knew what I know, you would surely laugh little and weep much. Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said that no day was harder on the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) than that day. They covered their heads and the sound of weeping began to come from them. Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said: We are pleased with Allah as our Lord, with Islam as our religion, and with Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) as our Prophet. A man stood up and said: Who was my father? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Your father was so-and-so (and mentioned his name). Then this verse was revealed: "O you who believe! Do not ask about things which, if made plain to you, may cause you trouble."
