‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was the most generous of all people in giving wealth, and his generosity was greatest in the month of Ramadan. And Jibril (peace be upon him) used to meet him every year in Ramadan until the end of the month. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite the Qur’an to him. When Jibril (peace be upon him) met him, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was more generous in giving wealth than the blowing wind. (It is understood from this that one should be more generous in a blessed month and at a blessed time.)
