Shafiq bin Abu Wa'il says that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with them) used to give us admonition every Thursday. A person said, "O Abu Abdur Rahman!" (this is the kunyah of Sayyiduna Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with him), "we wish to listen to your talk and we like it. We wish that you narrate hadith to us every day." Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "The reason I do not narrate hadith to you every day is that I dislike putting you into boredom, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to choose a specific day among several days for us, because he disliked causing us distress (i.e., being burdensome)."
